As the Archeologist-GS-9/11 Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Ensure collections from public lands, and the associated records, are deposited in repositories that meet federal curatorial facility standards Design and implement resource inventory strategies and sampling designs to obtain required data on heritage resources within a given project area Conduct inventories to locate heritage resources and determine impacts due to developmental activities in accordance with applicable federal laws, regulations and policies Inform and consult with BLM management, land owners, state government officials, tribal governments, consulting parties and the public to provide information, develop opportunities for partnerships, meet legal requirements, and explain and apply new technologies Ensure compliance with Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act Recommend and/or determine eligibility of heritage resources for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places and provides recommendations for reducing or eliminating adverse project impacts Write and prepare heritage and paleontological resource input for portions of environmental documents such as environmental assessments and planning documents, and coordinates with other specialists for multiple use documents, in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act and Federal Land Policy and Management Act Conduct outreach and educational activities about heritage resources and values at schools, in the field, or at other community venues Ensure that inventory and site data are entered, managed, and utilized in various geospatial databases Ensure that reports and data meet the format specifications mandated by BLM policy and that the heritage resources data in the system is updated and accurate Prepare and describe heritage program projects as part of the Planning Target Allocation (PTA), Annual Work Plan (AWP), Mid-Year Review (MYR), and End of Year (EOY) processes May serve as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) or a Contracting Officer Technical Representative (COTR) for contracts, and/or as a Program Officer for assistance agreements MINIMUM

Basic Requirements:
Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas:
History of archeology/Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa/Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development/Theory and methods of archeology,(Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques)/Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work. AND, 6 semester hours of related course work in:
geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND, Archeological field school. Related Curriculum:
degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above, (including archeological field school). OR Possess a combination of College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. OR Have four (4) years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. Minimum Qualification requirements for GS-9 Grade level:
You must possess at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes assisting in surveying, compiling an accurate interpretation of archeological and historical data of a specific geographical area and making professional recommendations for archeological and historical resources that may be affected by land surface disturbing activities. OR Have at least 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR Have a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Graduate level education is in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level. Minimum Qualification requirements for the GS-11 grade level:
You must possess at least one year of experience (equivalent to at least the GS-09 level or pay band in the Federal service) that includes performing the following types of duties:
planning & carrying out archaeological research projects which center on a major historical theme & time period. Examples:
Author or review cultural resource sections of resource management plans; develop mitigation strategies to resolve adverse effects to historic properties; supervise activities to protect & improve the conditions of cultural resources. OR Have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR Have a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience. Graduate level education is in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
